Christian’s career in the entertainment industry spans over thirty years and includes work on dozens of feature films, hundreds of TV series, commercials and music videos, collaborating with the biggest names in Hollywood, collecting a personal Emmy nomination as well as leading Clearcut FX to five contributor Emmys along the way.
In 1991, following a two year stint as a professional magician, juggler and fire-eater in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Texas, Christian and his new bride (with no job prospects or anyone to guide them) set off to find their fortunes in Hollywood. By February of that year, they had found a tiny apartment in Burbank, CA and had both landed jobs at an office temp agency. A three month gig as a receptionist at Warner Brothers led to several years of freelance work as a runner/production coordinator/post-production supervisor and associate producer with companies like Dick Clark Productions, Michael Jacobs Productions, AMPAS, ATAS, Moffitt-Lee Productions, et al. on shows such as Boy Meets World, The Academy Awards, The Primetime Emmys, Comedy Relief, The AMAs, The Cable Ace Awards, The Black American Filmmakers Awards, Almost Home, M.U.S.I.C. Together For Our Children, HBO Comedy Half Hours (Carlos Mencia, Margaret Cho, Eddie Griffin), Night Life, and others.
In 1995, Christian made a decision that would change his life forever... During his tenure as post production supervisor on Boy Meets World two years earlier, he had the privilege of overseeing several Henry sessions at a Melrose VFX boutique (View Studio). He was blown away by the process and decided to dedicate himself to building a career exclusively in visual effects. A year as operations manager at a prominent video post house in Burbank (Modern VideoFilm) led to a position as junior Flame/Inferno artist on Saban's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, Big Bad Beetleborgs and Masked Rider. Within a year, Christian was creating visual effects for shows such as Weird Science, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and even a feature film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman. By 2000, he had worked with numerous facilities and clients (Encore Hollywood, 525, Digital Magic, Method Studio, Bedlam, Colorado, etc.) and had created visual effects for over fifty episodic television pilots and series (The X Files, Dark Angel, The Outer Limits, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ally McBeal, Charmed, Roswell, et al.), several music videos (Puff Daddy, Master P, Mystikal, et al.) and many commercials (McDonald's, Mountain Dew, Xerox, Morgan Stanley, Hyundai, to name a few) and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on James Cameron's Dark Angel.
In June of 2000, Christian's hunger for new experiences led him to undertake another challenge; to expand his knowledge of the feature film visual effects process. He endeavored to work exclusively on movies. A two month gig at CIS Hollywood led to freelance assignment at Sony Pictures Imageworks on Charlie's Angels and Cast Away. Within two years, Christian had accepted a position as senior Flame artist in Imageworks' Interactive Compositing Department and by 2005 was leading the artist staff there. By 2008, Christian had completed nearly four hundred shots on thirty films including Spider-Man I and III, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Charlie's Angels I and II, Big Fish, Bad Boys II, 50 First Dates, Bewitched, Ghost Rider, Blade Runner - The Final Cut, Speed Racer and Hancock. During his tenure at Imageworks, Christian was privileged to collaborate with creative luminaries Ken Ralston, John Dykstra, Carey Villegas, Kevin Mack, Sheena Duggal, Rich Hoover, Mark Stetson, Rob Legato, Scott Stokdyk, Jim Birney, Pat McClung and many others.
In 2008, predicting the impending collapse of the feature film visual effects business in LA and wanting to provide a more realistic environment for their four year old son, he and his wife made the decision to unplug from their urban lifestyle and move back east. They sold their house, and with son and dog in tow, set off to chart new frontiers in their native New England. By October of that same year, the family had found a beautiful house in the woods of New Hampshire and were enjoying their new digs. In 2010, realizing the opportunities technology made possible, Christian decided to construct a visual effects studio on their property. The establishment, called Clearcut FX, specializes in high-end Nuke compositing for movies and television. To date, Christian and his team have completed over 1500 shots on dozens of movies, television shows and commercials. A few credits include Game of Thrones, Star Wars VIII, Star Wars IX, The Hunger Games, The 5th Wave, MIB3, Boardwalk Empire, Bad Moms, The Librarians, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Fast5, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Under Armor, Putnam Investments, McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Chrysler, Bank of America, et al. Clearcut FX is proud to have received Primetime Emmys for contributions to each of the last five seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
When not creating movie magic, Christian enjoys hanging with his family, sailing, skiing, cycling and performing in local theater productions.
